The Grim Drive Podcast explores mental health through the lens of professional sports and athletes.
Pro athletes come forward more and more with stories about their mental health journey, what they have endured, and how they managed to push through. This only started recently and reflects a mental health stigma that continues to be reduced.
Pro athletes also leverage mindset to achieve peak performance, as well as representing (and often driving) elements of popular culture through the use of social media, technology, and personal branding. This places athletes front and center as role models for people of all ages, giving them a platform that can reach many to deliver important information.
The mental health stigma, particularly for males, has been significantly diminished in the last few years; A cultural shift at the point of pushing through to the next phase: Awareness. Awareness is emerging after long periods of collective denial and resistance to the topic of Mental Health. The insight will fuel this phase of Awareness and powerful examples, like professional athletes, provide the spark. This insight, with a little helpful push from the athletes that frame it, can be harnessed by our listeners for their own benefits, to continue to push through on their own mental health journey.

*The Grim Drive Podcast is a way for people to learn about mental fitness, mental health, and mental illness, through the lens of sports. We want to do our part to further reduce the stigma associated with mental health by highlighting the athletes who have shown strength through vulnerability, spoken up, and spoken out. We want to provide listeners with mental health education, to raise awareness and reduce risk, maximizing the path to mental fitness.
